Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University is committed to establishing a state-of-the-art health care sector in Pakistan. It aspires to meet International Medical Education Standards, and produce an alma mater of medics second to none in the region. Our primary focus remains the establishment of research infrastructure right at the outset, coupled with research-based teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In doing so, we intend to foster a culture that bravely explores new dimensions and leads innovation within the healthcare system.

Our vision is to establish the most modern, efficient, and exemplary healthcare education model in the country. We are dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of both educators and learners to produce leaders who will transform healthcare for our nation and humanity.

The university is devoted to the advancement of both basic and applied medical sciences, including public health, medical administration, nursing, allied health sciences, genetics, and biomedical technologies. This commitment extends across our main campus, constituent colleges, and affiliated institutions.

We embrace the challenging responsibility of ensuring transparency and meritocracy in all university processes. These principles form the foundation which will produce the finest caregivers for Pakistan, and for the world. I have a firm conviction that this university offers unparalleled opportunities for faculty, researchers, and students to realize their full potential and to be recognized as leaders in healthcare, both nationally and internationally.

In the 11 years since our establishment, SZABMU has achieved significant milestones. We have restructured both our undergraduate and postgraduate curricula to include a strong emphasis on ethics and professionalism. Additionally, we have introduced a competency-based model for postgraduate residents and an integrated, modular system for undergraduate students. This focus on the continuous development of our teaching methodologies – I believe – is the hallmark of progressive medical education.

Today, the university offers 14 undergraduate and 45 postgraduate programs, with more than 8,000 students enrolled. The university has awarded over 600 postgraduate and 6,500 undergraduate degrees. Our capable alumni now serve in prestigious teaching institutions across Pakistan and around the globe.

We are also making impactful contributions in research. At present, five major research projects are underway. Among these is the VASP project (Vascular Arterial Surgery Planning), which pioneers the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the delivery of care for vascular diseases; it is now entering its commercialization phase.

SZABMU is working towards recognition in international rankings, including the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Times Higher Education (THE), and QS World University Rankings. By 2026, we aim to secure a visible place among the world's top universities.

The year 2026 will mark the launch of several new academic programs, including PhDs in Clinical Sciences, Medical Education, Public Health, and Dental Sciences. Additionally, MPhil programs will be introduced in basic sciences such as Physiology, Pharmacology, and Anatomy.

May Allah grant us fortitude and steadfastness to rise to the expectations of the society and the nation we aim to serve in the most befitting manner. (Aameen)
