Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Confers International Adjunct Faculty Status on Swiss and UK Based Professors
ISLAMABAD, October 6, 2025:
Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad, has conferred the prestigious title of International Adjunct Faculty on Prof. Dr. Gunesh P. Rajan, Vice-Chairman, Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, Luzerner Kantonsspital, Switzerland, and Dr. Iqbal J. Khan, a distinguished Pakistani-origin ENT surgeon currently serving in the United Kingdom.
The recognition was awarded in acknowledgment of their exceptional academic achievements, pioneering surgical contributions, and longstanding collaboration with Pakistani training programs in Otolaryngology.
Prof. Dr. Gunesh P. Rajan, who also serves as Professor of Medical Sciences at the University of Lucerne, was honoured for his leadership in advancing endoscopic ear and sinus surgery education. Dr. Iqbal J. Khan was recognized for his pioneering role in Cochlear Implant surgery and complex ear reconstruction procedures, which have significantly contributed to the development of advanced otologic surgery in Pakistan.
The honours were presented by Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, Vice Chancellor of SZABMU and a renowned national surgeon, during the inaugural ceremony of the 7th Islamabad ENT Hands-on Cadaver Dissection Course held at a local hotel in Islamabad.
His Excellency Mr. George Steiner, Ambassador of Switzerland to Pakistan, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. The event was attended by senior health professionals, medical educators, and trainees from across Pakistan and abroad.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq said the conferment reflects SZABMU’s vision of integrating clinical excellence with global academic partnerships. He noted that surgical disciplines, particularly cardiac and ENT surgery, are undergoing rapid transformation through simulation-based and cadaveric training. “SZABMU is committed to developing a new generation of surgeons with internationally benchmarked skills and patient safety standards,” he added.
Prof. Dr. Altaf Hussain, Chairman of the Islamabad Cadaveric ENT Course and Head of the Department of ENT at PIMS Hospital, highlighted that the course has evolved into one of the region’s leading surgical training initiatives. “The inclusion of international experts from Switzerland, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and other partner countries underlines the growing global stature of SZABMU and its training excellence,” he said.
The week-long course, hosted at the Surgical Skills Lab, PIMS, continues until October 10, 2025, offering advanced training in endoscopic and microscopic ENT surgical techniques.
University officials reiterated that SZABMU’s expanding network of international adjunct faculty reaffirms its commitment to academic innovation, global collaboration, and positioning Pakistan as a hub for advanced medical education and surgical research through its Department of Global Engagements.
